Happy couple pitch in for fun

FORGET your typical wedding reception, all canapes and disco, because one borough couple came up with a hole-y original idea.

James Green and Naomi Atkins tied the knot on Friday and as soon as their vows were over, they went outside - and over to the putting green.

The newly-wed couple invited more than 100 wedding guests to join them for a game or two of golf at Shirley Park’s pitch and putt.

Dressed to the nines in their frocks and suits, the crowd took over the course for a full hour.

Naomi said: “We wanted something a little different on the day and liked the idea of having our photos taken in Shirley Park. Then we discovered the pitch and putt there and thought it would be a great way to keep our guests entertained during the photos.

“James and I are both sporty so we hoped to play a few holes ourselves. The council and the guys who manage the pitch and putt have been a great help at helping us make our idea a reality.”

And those who played join an exclusive club - it’s the first time that Shirley Park has been used for a wedding celebration.

Coun Kate Wild, cabinet member for community services, said: “We’re pleased that we have been able to accommodate the couple and their guests on their special day.”
