PEOPLE power has won the day for a Shirley surgery after it got the green light to modernise and extend its practice at a planning meeting on Wednesday (November 5).
Hasluck's Surgery in Haslucks Green Road cares for almost 7,000 patients and despite initial objections raised by Solihull Council's Planning Department the proposals, backed by a campaign which saw a petition of 3662 signatures and 80 letters of support, were finally accepted at the meeting.
Dr Kumud Dunn, Partner at Haslucks Surgery said: "This is wonderful news. I am overwhelmed by the support we have received from our patients, our neighbours, our local Councillors, our representatives from right across the political spectrum and the Solihull Care Trust.
She continued: "I would wholeheartedly like to thank the Senior Planners and Planning Officers at Solihull MBC for taking the time to understand the complexities of a modern doctors' surgery and for recommending the approval of our proposal to the planning sub-committee'.
"We look forward to proving additional medical services for our patients through evidence based medicine with the emphasis on prevention and health promotion; essential factors for the health and well being of our community.
"Once again, I would like to thank everyone for their support."
The extension is expected to be completed by November next year but the surgery will continue to provide medical services from within its existing premises.
