Head hits out at school ‘yob’ parties

A HEADTEACHER has slammed yobs, who are regularly holding parties in the grounds of Archbishop Grimshaw School.

Andrew Mackereth, executive headteacher of the Chelmsley Wood-based school, said he was frustrated by a recent spate of anti-social behaviour.

In the most recent incident, last Saturday night, a group started two blazes on the sports field - one of them fuelled by aerosol cans.

The arsonists had already been chased off by security staff, but were bold enough to return and start another fire.

The school is still counting the cost of the blaze, which has ruined the playing surface, which is currently unuseable.

“I just find it very disappointing that we’ve got this fantastic new, school building and there’s a small element who want to spoil it,” said Mr Mackereth.

“Groups gathering on the grounds is quite common and although we’ve tried to shore up the gate, they just seem more determined to get in.”

He said this was the latest in a rising number of incidents - a man was recently spotted walking his dog round the school grounds.

Anyone with information about last weekend’s fire, can call West Midlands Police on 0345 113 5000.
