Preparations are being finalised for this year’s Shirley Lions Carnival in Shirley Park on Saturday July 10 which promises to be the biggest and best yet.
Carnival chairman Lion Phil Rippington said: “We are always looking for new attractions to appear at the carnival and this year we have gone for something completely different and added a musical theme to the event.”
There will be a variety of performances catering for all musical tastes starting with a marching display from the ever-popular Shirley Pipe Band, followed by performances from Solihull Music Service’s Soul Band and Steel Band.
During the afternoon Solihull Theatre Train and Clive’s School of Rock will also be entertaining the crowds, whilst Smooth Radio will be compering the whole event from their roadshow.
Audience participation will be key and the fun includes a limbo dancing competition to get everyone involved.
The aim as always will be to provide a fun-filled day for all the family and also to raise money for charity.
“This year we are raising money for Troop Aid.”
“In view of the current situation in Afghanistan it is hoped that the public will turn up in their thousands to support this worthwhile cause,” said Phil.
The gates open at 12 noon with the fun starting at 12.30. Admission is £1 for adults, 50p for children and seniors.
