HUNDREDS of people have signed a petition to save Shirley signal-box from demolition.
Solihull MP Lorely Burt, who is involved in the campaign to save the building, said this week that she was “cautiously hopeful”.
“There are lot of options open to us. I have written to Network Rail and asked them to postpone the demolition [due to take place next month].
“I am also setting up a meeting with the chief planning officer from Solihull Council to see if we can put a preservation order on the building.”
Hilary Walker, the resident who started the petition, will soon be travelling to Downing Street to present the signatures.
“The campaign is moving well,” said Mrs Burt. “Things are looking promising at this stage, but you never know for sure.”
