Horror as van hits family home

A SHIRLEY family had a miraculous escape after a van crashed through their conservatory and into the living room.

Mother-of-three Julia White was convinced that someone had been killed after the vehicle broke through the wall - stopping only metres from where she was sat with her husband Bernard.

The accident happened on Sunday evening when a car collided with a van, belonging to the couple’s son Tom. This had been parked outside the family’s Tanworth Lane home and was shunted around 20 yards into the side of the house.

Incredibly, it’s the third time that a crash has happened quite literally in the family’s back garden.

“There was a huge bang and then I saw the vehicle had come through the walls and its indicator lights were flashing,” said Julia.

“When I realised what had happened I immediately thought someone must have died.”

Emergency services received the 999 call at just before 8.45pm and arrived to find two men were trapped in the car which had collided with Tom’s van.

Colin Deering, from Solihull Fire Station, said that two crews attended and that cutting gear was used to get the men out of their vehicle - which had turned on its side.

Two casualties were taken to hospital.
