WITH winter just around the corner, Solihull Hospital is bracing itself for the start of the cold and flu season - and urging people with flu-like symptoms to steer well clear.
Each year, the hospital takes steps to prevent the spread of infection in the wards and corridors.
Nurse Diane Tomlinson said: “Solihull Hospital has strict hand hygiene guidelines, helping prevent these spreading among hospital patients, visitors and staff.
“If a ward has a sickness and diarrhoea outbreak, known as norovirus, we will be closing the affected ward to visitors, for a fixed period.”
Diane advised vulnerable people to have their flu-jab, available from GP surgeries from this month.
People suffering with flu, sickness or diarrhoea are likely to be very contagious for the first two days.
Hospital officials are urging anyone with such symptoms to avoid visits during this period.
