YES, Mr Richard Fitzgerald (Letters, August 28) I certainly can spell humanity. I understand the meaning of the word too.
To be humane is to care, not only for fellow beings, but animals, birds and other forms of life.
The thugs who beat up old people in their homes, rob them and leave them in fear, for ever, are not humane, any more than the rapists, murderers etc mentioned before in my letter, of which I think you missed the point.
As I nursed and cared for someone in constant pain for years, please don’t question my humanity. I am no spring chicken and have grey hair, so I suppose I come into the category you mentioned, but I still have a lot going for me and more importantly I am still caring.
