A HUNGRY thief has been jailed after stealing meat from a frozen food store in Chelmsley Wood.
Dino Fields, of Hatchford Walk, pleaded guilty to theft at Solihull Magistrates Court on Monday.
The 37-year-old took the meat from Iceland in the town centre on November 17 last year, the court was told.
Prosecuting John McCann said: “Staff watching CCTV footage saw the defendant stealing the meat and leaving without paying.”
Fields’ solicitor Philip Haycock said the defendant had been left with no money after his benefits were stopped. He added his client was homeless at the time and stole to feed himself.
“No violence was used and this was a low value theft. My client tested negative for drugs and he was not stealing to feed a drug habit.”
He asked magistrates not to consider a community punishment after Fields admitted he would not keep up the appointments, due to ‘children and housing commitments’.
Fields was sentenced to two weeks in prison for theft and two weeks for failing to answer to bail.
