SKATING star Kyran Bracken was in Solihull this week, giving a few handy tips to local youngsters.
The ex-rugby player won the second series of Dancing on Ice - the ITV show which pairs celebrities with professional skaters.
Since his appearance, he has developed a real passion for skating and will soon be making a guest appearance in a new show coming to the LG Arena.
On Tuesday, the Solihull News caught up with Kyran and his skate partner Suzanna Dagger, as they practised routines at Solihull Ice Rink.
“When I started Dancing on Ice, I’d done no skating, none whatsoever,” he explained.
“It’s amazing because it’s become my new passion, my new hobby, even a new business.”
From a novice to an enthusiast in a few short years, Kyran was happy to give some advice to local hopefuls. “We’ve just been out on the ice, some of them are better than me,” he said.
And Suzanna said it was good to see more and more youngsters taking an interest: “A lot of people are realising that this is a great sport to take up.”
As it turns out, the 26-year-old is no stranger to Solihull. During her training, she lived here for a year and spent many hours training at the Hobs Moat rink.
Since turning professional, she’s performed around the world, skating with Holiday on Ice for the past six years.
“It really is a great show, we’ve got guys and girls from around the world, who’ve represented their country at a very high level.”
“My main aim is not to embarrass myself performing alongside them,” joked Kyran.
* Holiday on Ice, Spirit will be on from February 26-28. Tickets are available from 0844 581 1313.
