SOLIHULL speedskaters showed a clean pair of blades to their rivals at Solihull Sports Council Awards.

Members of Mohawks Ice Racing mopped most of the major prizes at this year’s awards which took place recently at the Arts Complex.

Speedsters Jonathan Eley and Tom Iveson took the Sportsman of the Year award while team mate Danielle Khan claimed the Women’s prize.

Both Jonathan and Tom recently represented Great Britain at this year’s Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Trampolinist Luke Terry, a member of the Altari Trampoline Club in Chelmsley Wood and water polo player Jake Vincent were both highly commended in this category.

Another of the Mohawk speed skating fraternity Charlotte Gilmartin was highly commended in the women’s competition.

Solihull Swimming Club coach Gemma Louise Deery won the Young Volunteer of the Year prize while John Mee and Peter Jones shared the Services to Sports award.

Peter Jones was praised for his efforts with Solihull Canoe Club while John Mee achieved likewise with Solihull Swimming Club.

Chantel Hunter was awarded the Coaching Achievement award for her work with both girls and ladies football.

Not surprisingly, Mohawks Ice Racing were voted Team of the Year while Park Hall Academy under 15 girls trampoline team were highly commended.
