AN imitation pistol and police-style baton have been discovered in the car of a drunk driver.

AN imitation pistol and police-style baton have been discovered in the car of a drunk driver.

The weapons were found after Richard Powell, 42, of Marlene Croft, Chelmsley Wood, crashed his Peugeot 206 into a lamp post in Bickenhill Parkway at around 5.30pm on July 29.

Malcolm Stoddard, prosecuting, said Powell had been seen driving at speed and ‘fishtailing’ before the accident.

A member of the fire service found a bag in the boot with the 8mm starting pistol inside. Officers also found a metal, ‘police-style’ baton in the vehicle.

Powell pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon and an imitation firearm in a public place, as well as drink driving at Solihull Magistrates Court on Thursday August 30.

The case was adjourned until September 24.
