A PUBLIC Inquiry is set to be held later this month over a controversial planning application to build a marina in Knowle.
Green belt land at Grove Farm in Jacobean Lane had been chosen for the recreational facility for narrow boats by GUMALS (Grand Union Marine and Leisure Services Limited) and supported by British Waterways.
The facility would see the construction of a 140 berth off-line mooring facility with access and parking for cars.
However local residents and organisations, including the Knowle Society, objected and the original application was thrown out by Solihull Council in December 2009.
For their reasons they said the scheme ‘would not maintain the openness of the Green Belt’ and would pose a ‘flooding risk’.
The inquiry will take place from Tuesday January 25 to Friday 28 January at The SIMTR Conference Centre, Damson Parkway from 10am.
Objector Geoff Heaps: said “As residents whose homes and family will be greatly affected by the proposed marina, this inquiry is our last chance to fight the proposals and hopefully see an end to the plans at Grove farm, Jacobean lane for good.
