TWO pals from Solihull have set off on a 3000-mile journey to the Arctic Circle.
Charlotte Johnstone, aged 21, and Alex Adamson, 23, started out on the charity challenge earlier this week.
They decided to take part in the Scally Rally to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society and St John’s Ambulance.
And the race is made a little bit harder by the fact that all the teams have to enter a car that they bought for less than £100.
The friends plumped for a Toyota Camry, which is actually the same age as Charlotte.
Having spent weeks getting the vehicle up to scratch - and giving it an unusual paint-job - the pair set off in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Charlotte’s mum Brenda said: “It’s amazing what they’re doing - they’ll start in Holland and carry on up to Norway and into the Arctic Circle.
“Shirley Lions, local businesses and members of the family all mucked in to get the car ready in time.”
The charities are both close to home - Charlotte, from Shirley, volunteers for St John’s, while a relative of Alex’s has Alzheimer’s.
Once they’ve completed the five-day drive, the friends will be wending their way back to England and should return on August 1.
