It can’t cope

THE proposal to close Solihull Maternity Unit and transfer patients to Heartlands Hospital fills me with dread.

THE proposal to close Solihull Maternity Unit and transfer patients to Heartlands Hospital fills me with dread.

Yesterday my husband had to attend Heartlands for a follow-up appointment, despite the fact that we live 7-10 minutes from Solihull Hospital where the original consultation took place. We allowed plenty of time to get there - the journey took about 20 minutes - but when we arrived we simply couldn’t park. Cars were cruising round and it took us over half an hour to get a place.

Heartlands can obviously not cope now with parking so you can only imagine what it will be like if they transfer the maternity services there.

We are always being told we have a choice of where we receive treatment etc but the letter my husband received thanked him for choosing Heartlands - he certainly did not- and when asked to see the consultant at Solihull, was told the consultant doesn’t do follow-ups there.

What choice then?

I sincerely hope the campaign to Save Solihull Hospital Maternity Unit will get everyone’s backing. The alternative is horrendous.
