It’s a mystery

I READ your article ‘Mystery lights spotted over Shirley’s night sky’ (Nov 27).

Chinese wish lanterns, what a load of tosh. I, with a group of friends, saw exactly the same thing 44 years ago as we were walking across the top of the Lickey Hills at around 12.30am on Christmas Eve.

After walking from Monument Lane and across the top into the deep snow we all stood quietly for a while staring up at the night sky and the lights below into Rubery when suddenly a large bright orange ball glided across our view. It was perfectly round, very bright and moved quite purposefully and then it was suddenly gone. It terrified all of us and we made a hell of a dash back home. No one believed us and they thought we were all daft.

I have since read many stories of these strange balls of light and it would appear they have been documented for hundreds of years and more, so they are not Chinese lanterns for sure.
