I REALLY must take issue with Diana Ellis about the disabled parking at Solihull Hospital (Letters).
A disabled person receives a mobility allowance and also free car tax. The mobility scheme also offers a new car every three years inclusive of insurance, repairs, breakdown insurance and servicing. All this is in exchange for the current mobility allowance of £49.10 per week.
Why on earth should able-bodied people subsidise parking, wheelchair assistance at airports and sundry other things demanded by people such as she? The allowance is intended for such as this and anything extra should be received with thanks. It is not theirs as a right!
As a matter of interest, I’m disabled and very grateful for the extra perks I receive.
