JEANNA de Waal, a Solihull resident will be ‘doing the fandango’ as she joins the cast of ‘We Will Rock You’ at the Dominium Theatre in the West End, on a one-year contract.
This will be Jeanna’s first job as a professional actress since graduating from The Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts. It was there that she successfully completed her three-year BA (Hons.) in Acting (Performing Arts), earlier this year.
Both Jeanna and her younger sister Daniela attended St. Martin’s School for Girls in Solihull before moving to The Arts Educational School, Tring Park, Herefordshire.
Jeanna there concluded her A-Level studies in 2006, gaining three A’s in Maths, German and Theatre Studies before training at LIPA. Daniela is currently taking a three-year acting course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
The girls’ father Dr Hendrik de Waal claims that their talent is not from his side of the family: “I’m a dentist, but they never wanted to go into dentistry. My wife, who is from Coventry was involved in amateur dramatics, and her father has only recently stopped at the age of 85, so it must be from them.”
Dr de Waal’s specialist practice is in Knowle and the family home is in Prospect Lane, Solihull but the girls are pursuing their careers in London, where they are now living together. It is the realisation of dreams for two girls who always knew what they wanted to be.
Their father said: “I am very proud. Of course Dani is always a year behind, but the girls both push each other forward. When they’re five years old and say they want to be an actress you laugh at it, but they’ve stuck to their guns. Its very competitive, like all professions, and some of Jeanna’s friends are having a hard time finding agents and work - we’ve been lucky and now I don’t have to worry about my girl being unemployed.”
In ‘We Will Rock You’, Jeanna is part of the Ensemble and is also the second-cover for the leads Scaramouge and Meatloaf; she has recently begun a rigorous month of heavy training and rehearsal for the opening night on September 12.
‘We Will Rock You’ is also running at the Birmingham Hippodrome until September 12 - to order your tickets, visit firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0844 338 5000.
