Jo makes history as the first woman Lion

KNOWLE and Dorridge Lions welcomed four new members this month when their first ever couple, Jo and Steve Lewis, joined along with Steve Nejedly and returning Lion Eddie Matthews from Dorridge.

“We were particularly pleased that Jo, who ran in last year’s Knowle Fun Run, and her husband Steve decided to join us,” said Lion president John Heard.

“Jo will be our first female Lion, and whilst traditionally our partners have always helped with our fund raising and community service, it will good to have another perspective on our club.”

Jo said: “The group has given me a really warm welcome and I’m looking forward to extending this welcome in turn to other women who want to offer their time to help others.

“Both Steve and I have always supported the local community and we see joining Lions as a great way for putting something back, whilst hopefully making lots of new friends in the club. Although I shall be running in the Fun Run on May 10 we are both looking forward to helping with the months of organising required for this great community event.”

“Our club is thriving with more members than for many years,” said John.

“But like many clubs we have great difficulty attracting new younger members.

“The Knowle Fun Run in particular is becoming a challenge for us, and we would really like to hear from anyone interested in helping us.
