A PLAY centre has successfully appointed a young catering assistant through the government’s Work Programme, and in doing so, has received a financial reward through EOS’s ‘Golden Ticket’ initiative.

Amy Powell, aged 23, from Kingshurst, was suffering from depression and had been unemployed for two years when she was referred to the Work Programme with EOS. Towards the end of last year, she successfully overcame her personal barriers and was supported in securing part-time work at Funaticz children’s play centre in Stechford, Birmingham.

Her new employer took advantage of the government’s Youth Contract scheme, which gives businesses up to £2,275 for every 18 to 24 year-old they take on from the Work Programme.

Amy’s manager and Director of Funaticz, Annetta Jeffers, said: “We’re extremely pleased with the way in which Amy is progressing.”
