AMBITIOUS proposals to build a casino and associated leisure complex at the NEC have been cautiously approved by Solihull borough planners.
Genting Solihull Ltd had applied for outline planning permission to develop Resort World@The NEC which would see a 24-hour centre boasting a cinema, hotel, restaurants, bars, conference centre and a discount factory outlet as well as a casino for gamblers.
Councillors gave the scheme a thumbs up but stipulated that a number of conditions - particularly that of accessible public transport for employees to and from the NEC - should be met before it was given the final rubber stamp.
Councillor Alan Martin (Con, Bickenhill) said: " I like the design and think it will be a huge success to the area."
Councillor Glenys Slater (Lib Dem, Elmdon) added: "We are talking about hundreds of jobs to be created.
However we must seriously look at the bus services - not everyone can go by car."
Councillor JIm Ryan though (Con, Bickenhill) warned that although jobs were clearly needed for local people, a 'far more in-depth ' report was required.
