Key idea for Christmas

ANOTHER Christmas net shopping idea this week and one that epitomises what information technology is all about – efficiently automating the flow of vital information.

ANOTHER Christmas net shopping idea this week and one that epitomises what information technology is all about – efficiently automating the flow of vital information. In this case, it is the simple radio driven solution to a question I seem to ask all too regularly – ‘where are my keys?’

Step forward Smart Finder.

This clever gizmo retails on the net at just under a tenner and comes in two parts which can keep in touch with each other when they are up to 25 metres apart. The first dangles with your keys imitating a key fob. The second looks similar, has a big press button on it and is kept in a fixed, safe place.

When you are rushing to get out the door but are going nowhere until you have a key to start the car, you grab the second unit and press the button. The keys, sat in the pocket of the coat you had forgotten you were wearing last night, start screeching, courtesy of the Smart Finder fob. Naturally it will work with wallets and handbags as well. Some folks might even want one to glue to another item with a flair for growing legs and playing hide and seek - the TV remote.

For the terminally forgetful, there is a Version Two model which has a four button base unit, two key fob locators and two further locators with self adhesive pads, all colour coded.

For more details, check out www.smart-finder.co.uk where there are even more suggested uses, although using Smart Finder to locate the kids is a bit far-fetched. They have their own built in screech!
