A charity football match is hoping to prove a ‘knock-out’ event, after two local boxing heroes agreed to take part.

Rising boxing stars, Frankie Gavin and Wayne Elcock, will be joining Birmingham City FC All Stars, in a bid to raise funds for Solihull MS.

The team will play Monica Star Vets on Sunday, October 4 (11am KO).

Jackie Dawkes, fundraiser for the Solihull branch of the MS Society, said: “We were knocked out when the Birmingham City stars offered to put on the match to support us – and then boxers Frankie and Wayne backed the event as well.

“This should be a thumping good match, with a smashing family atmosphere, and we hope all the fans from Birmingham and Solihull will turn out for a great day – for a great local cause.”

Besides ex-Blues players, Birmingham City All Stars include players of other clubs and sportsmen, as well as the two local boxers. Monica Star, a well known local Sunday football club, will prove stiff opposition, and will want to hold onto their proud unbeaten record.

The game is at Sedgemere Sports and Social Club, Sedgemere Road, Yardley. Admission is by programme, £3 for adults, and £1 for children.

These can be booked in advance with Jackie Dawkes on 01564 823627, or email: Jackie.dawkes@btinternet.com.

There will also be a bouncy castle, catering stall, and an ice cream van, as well as a prize raffle during the day.
