A FAMILY-run auction business may be in danger of closing less than a year after it has opened if it cannot find new premises.
Knowle Auction Rooms, on Station Road, opened its doors in February but following planning approval last week for a new Waitrose to be built on the site, the owners have been forced to look for new premises.
“We always knew this would be the case,” said Val Bedford, who set the business up for her daughter Daisy.
“This is in no way an attack on the new supermarket, we knew our lease would only last a year and was unlikely to be renewed.
“The new development would take over some of our access and car park anyway so it would not be ideal for us to stay there.
“The problem is we now need to find new premises and we are very keen to remain in Knowle or as close to Knowle as we can.
“We have established a good business even though we have only been going for less than a year.”
A recent auction for a 19th Century Solomon Island paddle fetched £9,000 for a local owner and attracted bidders from Belgium, France, America, Australia and New Zealand.
