A KNOWLE resident has self-published her debut novel, a war-time saga entitled Heronfield.

Set during the Second World War, Heronfield has been transformed from a beautiful manor house to an emergency hospital.

Heroic WWII fighter pilot David and brainy little brother Tony are try to cope with the horrors of Britains first defeat when field nurse Sarah arrives, offering a brief respite its terrors.

But will everything change after young American GI, Bobby, is posted to England?

Describing the book as Pearl Harbour meets Downton Abbey, author Dorinda Balchin said she had always been fascinated by the Second World War.

Explaining her influences, the former teacher said: We dont show just one characteristic in our lives she says, we are an amalgam of our thoughts and experiences, our hopes and fears, our education, and the influence that numerous people have had on us, shaping us into the people we are today.

Its the same with authors and genres which have influenced me.

Each genre has a place on my bookshelves and has helped to shape my ideas and writing style into something which I hope reflects the richness of human life in an accessible and entertaining way.

Now living in a secluded Indian village, Dorinda is already working on her second novel, based on a modern-day archaeologist whose search for the fabled treasure of El Dorado leads him and his team into a supernatural battle against the Aztec gods who protect the treasure.

Heronfield is available on Amazon. For more information about Dorinda, visit
