A LAND ROVER fan from Bahrain on a 12-country road trip has earmarked a visit to the Solihull factory to help celebrate its 60th anniversary.
Ali Mushaima is a big fan of the 4x4's made in the borough and will be driving a Land Rover, sponsored by the company, for the duration of the 9,000-mile journey.
Speaking about his love of Land Rovers, Ali confessed he had even transformed one of his vehicles into a motor home. "It would be the perfect travel companion! I think it's important people start to travel more by car as its more environmentally friendly than travelling by air and you get to see more of the country."
The travel enthusiast will be accompanied by travel writers and photographers at different legs of the Bahrain to Britain: Voyage of Discovery, which will take him through Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Italy, Switzerland, France, Ireland, Scotland and finally England in time to watch the Formula One race in Silverstone on July 6.
Ali, currently in Greece, said the aim of the trip was to bridge the gap between east and west as well as to promote Bahrain's culture and its popular motorsport circuit.
"It's mainly a hobby for me but I hope to promote friendship between different countries," he added.
He will join in the celebrations of Land Rover's 60th anniversary on July 10 for a reception to mark the end of the tour. ..SUPL:
