DUDLEY Taylor Pharmacies Ltd (trading as Dyhouse Pharmacy, Dorridge), is the longest serving shop in the Forest Court Arcade. We have been tenants for over 40 years.
During this time, a significant change has taken place in the shopping habits of the residents of Dorridge, where weekly shopping in the numerous out-of-town supermarkets has become the norm.
The customer footfall retailers now experience on a day to day basis has proved insufficient to support many of the shops.
We do not believe anyone would describe the existing precinct as being an attractive venue for day to day shopping. We strongly feel therefore, that the shopping precinct should be demolished and a key supermarket encouraged to come to the town.
We have had fantastic support from our extremely loyal customers and it is purely for this reason we have been able to continue running a successful pharmacy.
However, even in this specialist market we have noticed a downturn in the sale of toiletries as a result of further growth of out of town supermarkets.
Further proposed developments in Knowle, such as John Lewis supermarket, will be the final nail in the coffin for the vast majority of shops in Dorridge if a sensible in-town supermarket cannot be attracted into the town.
The demolition, followed by the rebuilding of a modern, exciting and successful shopping environment should be vigorously supported.
We know if a supermarket is allowed to redevelop the Forest Court site, this will provide a great incentive for residents to continue to use the local shops and services.
We honestly believe that the existing precinct can no longer be regarded as fit for purpose.
We therefore, wholly support the Sainsbury’s application for Forest Court.
