A SHELDON schoolgirl was among hundreds honoured at an awards ceremony organised by West Midlands Ambulance Service.
Laura Vann received the Chief Officer’s Commendation after she bravely helped her father Chris when he collapsed in October last year. The nine-year-old took control of the situation, calling for an ambulance and then contacted her mum asking her to return home.
The paramedics that were called to the scene had nominated Laura, a pupil at Elmsfarm School, for the award.
Dad Chris said that he had been sat watching TV when he suffered a black-out.
“The next thing I remember was seeing the paramedics. There are not enough words to say how proud I am, she did brilliantly.
“The paramedics said that they were impressed with Laura’s calmness and at how precise she was. I spent a lot of time in hospital and I cannot thank the paramedics and all the hospitals enough.”
