Professor Don Milligan, medical director for the Pan Birmingham Cancer Network and government advisor, will take up the new post in April to expand its life-saving research to become a regional centre for recruitment into clinical trials.
Dr Mark Newbold, chief executive of the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust which runs Solihull, Heartlands and Good Hope hospitals, said: “We are extremely pleased with the appointment.
“Our vision is for research to be an integrated part of the clinical care we provide our patients. We put more patients into clinical trials than any other Trust in the West Midlands and by offering trials to patients we can offer them access to the newest drugs.”
Prof. Milligan is also chairman of the National Cancer Research Institute Clinical Studies Group for Haematology.
