A LEARNER driver who decided to take his new car for a spin has already racked up six penalty points after he was caught driving without a licence or insurance.

Ethan Oldham, of Hipsmoor Close, Kingshurst, was caught by police driving his Clio along St John’s Grove, unsupervised, on October 13 last year.

The 22-year-old pleaded guilty to driving without a full driving licence and not having appropriate insurance.

Prosecuting, Malcolm Stoddard, said: “It was around 10pm when [Oldham] was stopped by police. The defendant was driving unsupervised and did not have insurance for the vehicle.

“The vehicle was seized at scene.”

Oldham, who was not represented in court, told magistrates: “It was a silly thing to do. I had just bought the car, it was just on my drive, so I thought I would take it out.”

He was fined £129 and told to pay £80 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
