ON Saturday last (January 30) I was on Widney Road, Bentley Heath and seeing a bus approach I trotted the few yards to a stop and hailed it.
To no avail; perhaps the driver assumed I was some poor old codger seeking to recapture long lost youth with a little gentle jogging and was holding out my arm to indicate an imminent left turn.
He swept past with the look of disdain one associates with an old time squire looking from his coach upon an unwashed peasant; I almost expected to be tossed a groat.
Such treatment will assuredly result in a crumbling of the driver’s customer base. But perhaps this is the idea and the National Express plan is to make Knowle and district a bus free zone, with drivers obeying orders with such zeal receiving a generous bonus with their P45s.
