ON February 16, while walking through Castle Bromwich village along the Chester Road, I picked up 19 red elastic bands discarded by our “friendly” Royal Mail Postman/woman.
I understand that Solihull MBC has the powers to issue a £75 spot fine for every elastic band dropped on the pavements. This could be an very good revenue raising exercise and would help out the council tax payer enormously. The elastic bands I collected alone would raise £1,425.00.
There are a few questions I would like an answer to.
Firstly, is Solihull MBC doing anything at all about this local, and nationwide, problem of Royal Mail openly littering our pavements? Are local authorities talking to Royal Mail about this problem? Finally, can a Royal Mail spokesperson tell me why they clearly condone their postmen/women littering the nation’s pavements, and what are they doing to stop it?
