Light up a life with the Tree of Thought

IT’S nearly that time of year again, and the Macmillan fund raising team are busy finding Christmas trees in Solihull to light up for their Tree of Thought campaign.

IT’S nearly that time of year again, and the Macmillan fund raising team are busy finding Christmas trees in Solihull to light up for their Tree of Thought campaign.

The Macmillan Christmas event invites you to make a donation and sponsor a light on your local Tree of Thought for someone who cannot be with you this Christmas.

This year the campaign is being supported by Nicole Forbigg, a cancer survivor and keen Macmillan supporter.

The 32-year old teacher has used her creative talents to write a touching poem to be used in the special Christmas card that people who sponsor a light will receive.

Rachel Williams from Tree of Thought said: “We felt it was important to give people who supported the campaign every year something a bit different to show how much we appreciate their contribution.

“Nicole has experienced cancer first hand and was able to write a poem that will hopefully speak to people who wish to remember loved ones at this special time of year.

“We are hoping that if the new card is a success our supporters will get involved by submitting their own poems for us to use in future campaigns.”

Last year hundreds of people made donations towards lights on the Macmillan trees helping to raise nearly £12,000 for services in Birmingham,Solihull and the Black Country. This money will be used to help improve the lives of people who are affected by cancer through practical, medical, emotional and financial support.

Macmillan are hoping that this year even more people will support the campaign, perhaps thinking of a friend or relative elsewhere in the UK or abroad, or to commemorate the life of someone special.

There are trees located all around Solihull including Chelmsley Wood, Solihull Mell Square and Shirley High Street.

Chelmsley Wood’s tree and lights will be switched on on Friday November 26 from 4pm and Shirley High Street outside the park entrance on December 1 from 4pm. With Santa, reindeer and music they will get you in the Christmas spirit.

To sponsor a light simply fill in the application from and send it with your donation to the Fund raising Team at Macmillan Cancer Support, 2nd Floor, Delta View, Coventry Road, Sheldon, B26 3PG or 0121 742 6393
