Local firefighters honoured for saving youngster's life

A SHELDON fire crew, whose quick thinking saved the life of an 18-month-old child, have been honoured at an awards ceremony.

A SHELDON fire crew, whose quick thinking saved the life of an 18-month-old child, have been honoured at an awards ceremony.

The White Watch, based at Sheldon Fire Station, received the Operational Excellence award for personnel who have shown excellence in challenging circumstances, at the West Midlands Fire Service, WMFS, Aspire Awards 2012 last Friday.

Watch Commander Mark Engers, firefighters Leigh Kelly, Richard Simmonds and Vincent Marshall, and former firefighter Gareth Bond, who make up White Watch, were given the honour for saving the life of a young child at a property where a gas cooker had been switched on but not ignited.
