Local ladies create their own Calendar Girls style fundraiser

LOCAL ladies from the British Lung Foundation have been baring all, Calender Girls style, for a charity fundraiser.

LOCAL ladies from the British Lung Foundation have been baring all, Calender Girls style, for a charity fundraiser.

Samantha Shirley, of Meriden Drive, Kingshurst managed to persuade 11 friends to create the nude calendar in aid of a friend who lost her father to lung disease.

“We aren’t usually the type to get our kit off but it was tastefully done for a great cause,” said Samantha.

“My good friend lost her dad to the condition COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) a few years back and the organisation supported her and the family through a difficult time so we wanted to help her give something back.”

The group has already raised over £500 and are hoping to collect even more at the official calendar launch night on November 16 at the Pavillions Sporting Club Kingshurst. Calendars will be on sale at the evening which also includes a DJ, tarot card reader, raffle, and games.

The calendar echoes the efforts of the Angela Baker, who created a naked Women’s Institute calendar to raise money for Leukaemia Research after her husband died of lymphoma.

The famous calendar went onto inspire the film and stage play Calendar Girls.
