A SHIRLEY woman will be living on the breadline next week as she spends just £1 a day on food for charity.
From Monday to Friday, Maggie Throup will be giving up her favourite foods in favour of oats and rice as she attempts to buy a whole week’s worth of food with just £5.
“It’s definitely going to be a challenge,” said the 55 year-old marketing consultant.
“I don’t think I’d realised just how hard it would be when I signed up.
“I am very active and eat a lot of protein but meat is too expensive so it’ll be quite interesting to live without it.
“I’ll miss meat and cheese but most of all, I think I’ll miss having the freedom to eat what I want.”
Maggie will be joined by thousands across the world as part of the Live Below the Line campaign. They will be living on the extreme poverty line to raise awareness of 1.4billion across the world who struggle to meet their daily needs on less than £1 a day.
