A VERY special guest got pupils at an Arden School sports day off to a cracking start.
Under the watchful eye of Alan Bell, who will be the chief starter of the 100m final at this summer’s Olympic Games, the youngsters enjoyed a day of sport, all started with the official race gun.
Mr Bell was accompanied by two further guests - Tommy Godwin, Knowle’s own Olympic cyclist who won bronze medals at the 1948 London Olympics and a current ambassador for the London 2012 games, and Paralympian swimmer Kate Grey.
The guests were joined at lunch by dignitaries including the Deputy Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Ian Courts, and his wife Sheila.
The day culminated in Arden’s inaugural Sports Gala Dinner where pupils from Years 10-13 were honoured for their sporting achievements, Nathalie James won the coveted Arden Sports Personality of the Year award.
