Lorraine set to take on an Olympic role

BOROUGH woman Lorraine Ashford has been chosen as an Olympic torchbearer by her employer British Airways.

BOROUGH woman Lorraine Ashford has been chosen as an Olympic torchbearer by her employer British Airways.

Lorraine’s story began nine years ago when she was devastated to receive a diagnosis of breast cancer.

During many months of treatment and several operations, she found enormous support from the local breast cancer support group, Breast Friends Solihull.

Having other local ladies to talk to who had been through similar experiences and were now fit and healthy was very comforting and the practical help provided by Solihull Breast Friends came just at the time when it was needed most.

As soon as she was fit and well again, Lorraine pledged to do all she could to help build up this fledgling charity in order to help other local women going through the same difficult times.

She said, “Breast Friends has been a lifeline for me and for so many local women. We share a common bond – We have had lots of laughs over the years and are there for each other in times of sorrow and joy.

“I am honoured to have been chosen as a Torchbearer and really hoping that some of the Breast Friends community will be able to make the long journey to Cardiff to celebrate with me.”
