RESIDENTS in the leafy suburb of Hillfield have been left shaken after a horrific weekend attack when a gang of men pointed a shotgun at a terrified young woman and threatened to rape her before attacking a man with a machete.

The incident happened in Kelmarsh Drive at around 1am on Saturday morning.

One frightened mum who lives nearby said: “A couple were walking back from Solihull and the girl was walking ahead as it would appear they had a bit of a row.

“She turned into Kelmarsh Drive and was jumped by a gang of men who got out of a car then held a shotgun to her face and said they were going to rape her.

“She started screaming, which woke people in Kelmarsh Drive and neighbours of mine ran outside to see what was happening.

“At this point the lad she was with arrived on the scene and started shouting “she’s with me”.

“The attackers ran at him and attacked him with a machete - he had a number of wounds as well as a dislocated shoulder and was taken to Solihull Hospital.

“The gang then jumped into their car and sped off.”

Anyone who witnessed the attack or has any information is asked to contact Solihull Police on 0845 113 5000.

The car involved was believed to be a convertible BMW and it is thought there were four men involved in the attack.

Asked how people in the area felt following the incident, the concerned resident who did not wish to be named added: “Everyone is really shocked that something like this could happen in Hillfield, which we think of as a really safe area.”
