STAFF and customers of Melbicks Garden and Leisure Centre, in Coleshill, were patting themselves on the back after managing to raise a whopping £11,560 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The cash was raised throughout the year via a variety of activities, including a uniform day for staff for Valentines Day, St George’s Day, Halloween and a Christmas Pantomime Theme.

Other events included hosting the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, as well as having a Christmas Tree as part of Macmillan’s Tree of Thought campaign.

Fran Turner, general manager of the centre said: “We were delighted to help such a worthy cause, and my colleagues from across the centre really enjoyed taking part in all the various fund raising activities during 2008.

“I’d also like to say a special thank you to my colleague Kate Lewis, our display and events supervisor who took the lead on organising lots of the events and liaised with the fund raising team at Macmillan.”

Sharon Battersby, Fund raising manager added: “I would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff and customers of

Melbicks for raising such a tremendous amount for Macmillan.

“The staff have been very enthusiastic throughout the year with their fund raising, and it’s been great going in to see them on their non-uniform days!

“The centre has also been extremely supportive with our World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and Tree of Thought Campaigns.”
