MAGISTRATES have fined a man for trashing a cell in a drunken rage after he was arrested for assault.

MAGISTRATES have fined a man for trashing a cell in a drunken rage after he was arrested for assault.

John Whitehead, of Moat Croft Road, Chelmsley Wood, flushed a blanket down the toilet and ‘repeatedly spat’ at the CCTV camera in his cell on May 13.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Solihull Magistrates Court on Monday.

He had been arrested and taken to Solihull Police Station on suspicion of assaulting two man at a party. Gez Newsome, prosecuting, said the cost of the damage is estimated to be £123.

He was fined £110, told to pay £123 compensation and a £15 victim surcharge. He pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault and his trial will take place at the same court on July 11.
