A reveller who took a pair of martial arts nunchucks to a party to show them off got arrested on his way home for possessing the weapon in a public place.

Sean Dwyer, of Honeybourne Road, Sheldon, was stopped and searched by police at a bus stop in Dunster Road on March 3 following reports of an attempted burglary.

No action was taken over the attempted burglary but he was charged with possessing the weapon, Solihull Magistrates Court heard on Monday.

Dwyer, 31, told police he had taken the weapon - as used by martial arts star Bruce Lee - to a party to show it off.

Following his arrest, the 31-year-old then went on to damage his cell by trying to force a mattress into the toilet and throwing water at the walls and camera.

Dwyer’s solicitor Ian Martin said the weaponwas not brandished and had remained in a bag the whole time.

Dwyer pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon and criminal damage and was given a 12 month community order, ordered to pay £85 costs, £50 victim surcharge and £80 compensation.
