BOAT owners have discussed plans to build a marina – with room for 225 canal boats – near to Knowle Locks.
British Waterways presented their proposals to local people during a meeting at the Black Boy pub last Friday.
Residents were joined at the meeting by Meriden MP Caroline Spelman and landscape architect Richard Greenway.
Mr Greenway said he hoped the marina would attract more people to Knowle Locks.
“We need to celebrate the canal network we have, and we need to invest it. This marina is the least intrusive of the options. It should bring benefits and more tourists to the area,” he said.
The location of the marina close to Knowle village would be a boost to local businesses and would generate around six full-time jobs in itself, but councillors will have to weigh that up with the site being green belt land. Councillors are due to make a decision on the application at a meeting of the planning committee at the civic suite on June 24.
