A SOLIHULL student made the semi finals of a UK Song writing competition out of 6,300 entries.

Melissa Hollick from Damson Lane attends Lode Heath School, she has been writing songs from the age of eight.

The 16-year-old suffered from Chronic fatigue Syndrome as a youngster and writing lyrics about her feelings at the time helped her through the ordeal.

Melissa also made the final of the Make it or Break it Songwriting competition last year, she hopes to enter as many competitions as she can.

Writing her own lyrics for songs helps Melissa to express her feelings and she wants to continue studying music after school.

She is currently completing her BTEC First Diploma in Music and working towards her grade 6 in singing for the associated board of the Royal School of Music.
