CAROLINE Spelman, MP for Meriden, is raising awareness about the workings of British democracy as part of Parliament Week, which runs until November 6.
She said: “Parliament touches the lives of every person, organisation and business throughout the UK, and yet, for many, Parliament’s work, influence and history are unfamiliar.
“People often feel they have little to do with Parliament directly. This is the time for that to change.
“I have written to every school in my constituency to let them know about Parliament Week and the activities and resources that are on offer. Arden School and Park Hall Academy have already contacted me to say that they hope to use Parliament Week as an opportunity to explore the work and role of Parliament and I hope that many more schools will also get on board.
“One of the most inspiring events will be the sitting of the UK Youth Parliament in the House of Commons Chamber on Friday 4 November. For the first time the BBC Parliament Channel will be showing the session live so that teachers can follow some or all of it with their pupils.”
“If schools would like copies of any the resources they should get in touch with my office on 0207 219 2886 or Parliament’s Education Service, which can be contacted at email@example.com or on 020 7219 4496.
