A PENSIONER who had a quadruple heart bypass is urging people to support a brand-new charity event.

Mike Lines, aged 70, and wife Tricia, who run the Solihull Heart Support Group, are encouraging people to take part in the Santa Jog.

Hundreds of people will be pulling on a red and white suit and running, or walking, through Malvern and Brueton Park.

The event, organised by the British Heart Foundation, will be taking place for the first time on December 5.

Jag Kundalia, from BHF, said: “What we want to do is create an event which in a few year’s time will have the reputation of something like Knowle Fun Run.

“It’s something that we want the whole family to take part in, whether that’s mums with pushchairs or elderly people.”

Solhull Heart Support Group, which now has over 250 members, is among the groups supporting the fundraising challenge.

Tricia, aged 64, said: “The BHF supported us in setting up the group, and when we first held a meeting to see how much interest there would be, over 50 people turned up.”
