SOLIHULL MBC should be awarded the title of Head of Business Prevention.
At a time when retailers are desperate for every penny to keep their business alive and their staff employed, what does the council do?
They find the quietest car park in Solihull and put in place measures that mean it is not possible to pay for any more than 30 minutes in total.
So if I stop and have to spend an extra two minutes taking some cash out of the bank to make my purchases locally and help keep the local economy ticking, I will be issued with a draconian £50 PCN.
I know this because I have one to prove it. Time till expiry 12.27, time issued 12.33. And two minutes of that was spent arguing with the attendant.
So I have found this great shop online, where I can buy anything from DVDs to my weekly shop and it will deliver my purchases to my door within 24 hours.
All this without the hassle of having to run back to my car every 30 minutes to ward off the over-eager council workers with their money-grabbing, ticket-issuing, tax machine (apparently know as the councillors' Jolly Fund money raiser, council workers slang).
I'm sure the local retailers are thrilled.
