A MONKSPATH air hostess who ran with Usain Bolt and raised tens of thousands in memory of her brother will be an Olympic torch bearer.

Michelle Oakes, aged 29, has climbed the Atlas Mountains in Africa, completed the Jamaican walkathon alongside Bolt and organised four charity balls in Solihull and London to raise money for charity.

Michelle Oakes, aged 29, has climbed the Atlas Mountains in Africa, completed the Jamaican walkathon alongside Bolt and organised four charity balls in Solihull and London to raise money for charity.

The British Airways air hostess began doing fund raisers following the death of her brother Martin in November 2009, aged 33 from Carcanoid cancer. He spent his last days at Marie Curie Hospice so Michelle and her sister Caroline decided they wanted to do something to thank the charity for their excellent care.

Michelle has personally raised over £20,000 for charity and in recognition of her tireless philanthropy, she was unknowingly nominated by a British Airway colleague to carry the Olympic torch as it passes through Cardiff next month.

She added: “My brother would have screamed if he found out I was carrying the torch. I’m definitely doing it for him.”
