More volunteers needed for a common spruce-up

HELP is desperately needed to maintain the only remaining ‘common land’ in Solihull.

HELP is desperately needed to maintain the only remaining ‘common land’ in Solihull.

The area, known as Catherine de Barnes Common, forms the start of beautiful walks across a new boardwalk, through ancient woods and along the footpath above the Grand Union Canal to Damson Parkway - returning along the towpath.

Despite routine maintenance, parts of the common have become overgrown in recent years and the communities of Hampton-in-Arden and Catherine de Barnes have been holding working parties through the winter to deal with vegetation explosion. However additional help is now needed to restore as much of the common as possible to a satisfactory state before summer.

Anyone ready and willing to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in is invited to join the working parties on February 25 and March 31 from 10am to 12 noon. All tools are supplied and a friendly welcome is guaranteed.

Leaving Solihull via Hampton Lane, Bickenhill Lane is first left over the canal bridge in Catherine de Barnes.

For more details call Gill Lewis, chair of Hampton in Arden Parish Council, on 07860 864417.
