MP issues warning on fake debt advice on-line sites

DON’T be fooled by misleading websites - that was the message from Caroline Spelman this week.

DON’T be fooled by misleading websites - that was the message from Caroline Spelman this week.

The Meriden MP is concerned that some web pages are offering advice about how to manage debts and appear to be endorsed by the Government. In actual fact these are run by independent companies.

Mrs Spelman said: “With the economic and employment situation looking to get worse before it gets better, more and more people may be looking for help with their debts.

“I would hate anyone in such a crisis situation to be misled and would suggest their first port of call is the Citizens Advice Bureau which can then signpost them in the most appropriate direction.”
